It is meticulously carved from a top-grade piece of Furong stone. The stone boasts a rich chicken-oil yellow hue, with a dense, tender and lustrous texture as well as a uniform, translucent coloration—making it a rare treasure among Furong stones and an exceptional material for seal carving. The artist carved the piece in perfect harmony with the stone’s inherent color and texture, centering the design on the auspicious motif of longevity peaches. Three plump, rounded peaches are rendered using the stone’s natural beeswax-yellow tone, their surfaces glowing like smooth, congealed fat; the realistic depiction of their curves and textures makes them look as if they are fresh fruits hanging heavy on the branch. The leaves and branches are crafted with a combination of openwork and bas-relief techniques, their delicate veins depicted with vivid, lifelike detail. This creates a striking contrast between the solid weight of the peaches and the airy lightness of the foliage, while the twisting, stretching vines exude a lively sense of natural charm.
