Mouthwatering Delights" This masterpiece Mouthwatering Delights stands as the magnum opus of Master Liu Dawei, drawing its inspiration from the poetic imagery of "loquats weighing down the branches, red bayberries clustering thick on the trees, their fresh fruit tempting all to crave a taste". On the left, the loquat carving is crafted from Fengmen Golden Jade Agate stone, its honey-yellow hue expertly leveraged to bring the fruit to life. Each loquat is plump and rounded, with a smooth, lustrous texture that glistens like clustered pearls. The branches and leaves are rendered using the openwork carving technique; their delicate veins twist and stretch with vivid grace, capturing the lush, swaying posture of a loquat tree in full bloom. On the right, the bayberry carving makes masterful use of the natural color of Red Flower Stone for the fruit—each berry blazes like a crimson pearl. The fine dotted engravings on the surface precisely replicate the bumpy texture of fresh bayberries, making them look as if they have just been plucked from the branch. The translucent agate stone leaves and the natural black crystal stone tree stump base create a striking interplay of void and solid, imbuing the work with a rustic, untamed charm. The artist’s use of the stones’ inherent colors is nothing short of a stroke of genius, seamlessly blending the warm, gentle luster of Golden Jade Agate, the vibrant richness of Red Flower Stone, and the poised depth of black crystal stone. In terms of craftsmanship, the piece integrates three techniques: round carving, openwork carving, and bas-relief. The plump texture of the fruits and the delicate, layered translucency of the leaves are rendered with meticulous detail. Every chisel stroke showcases the precision of realist craftsmanship while embodying the ethereal charm of Chinese freehand brushwork, freezing the freshness and vitality of the fruit in stone. To gaze upon it is to almost smell the sweet fragrance of the fruit, stirring a genuine sense of craving. The base is hand-carved from natural boxwood, following the organic shape of the wood. Its grain flows like wandering clouds, and it is inscribed with poetic verses that complement the "fresh fruit" theme of the stone carving, lending an elegant, time-honored artistic appeal when the piece is displayed.
