This set of Ru ware bowls, paired with a dark-incised dragon and phoenix patterned bowl, is a rare treasure. The Ru ware bowl is simply shaped, with a wide mouth, slanting walls, and a well-formed foot ring. It has a thin body and thick glaze, giving it a smooth, almost fatty luster, with naturally occurring cicada-wing crackles. The paired bowl has a constricted mouth and round belly, with a stable form. The lines of the dark-incised dragon and phoenix pattern are lively and subtly visible under the glaze.
